- Chapters: [[1 Peter 1]]:22 to [[1 Peter 2]]:3 # Perishable vs imperishable - flowers are glorious, and yet they wither and fall - they are desperately temporary, just like us - quoting from [[Isaiah]] - [[Francis Webster]], once a rector at [[All Souls Langham Place]], used to be highly respected as such. would preach about e.g. not driving to church on a sunday, but died in the 1920s in a car accident. now very few people in this audience have probably heard of him - even silver or gold or called perishable - but what is imperishable is us, "through the living and enduring word of [[God]]" - v. 25: "the word of the [[Lord]] endures forever" - you will live for as long as the seed that gave you birth, and hence by being born again in imperishable word of [[God]] so too are we imperishable - we can sometimes struggle to believe that due to just how physical our experience is a) only the words of [[God]] endure forever b) you are a word baby - healthy babies grow -- it's good for babies to gain weight, unlike middle aged men - v. 22 "love one another deeply, from the heart" - healthy babies grow **only by consuming more of the milk that made them** - v. 2: "like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk so that by it you may grow up in your salvation" - "spiritual" in [[Greek]] is very similar to the word [[Logos]] -- you must be craving for more of [[God]]'s word, which is the indestructible thing - we should be **craving** this pure spiritual milk like a baby would, crying and begging - fast food is not very good at being food and satiating; you would not feed a baby fast food. e.g. [[Daily Bread]] [[Bible]] reading is more satiating than youtube shorts - it's more important to look after your health than your t-shirts -- it's more important to look after the parts of you that are more longer lasting
