Beloved physician and faithful companion of [[Paul]]. A [[Gentile]], making him unique among [[Paul]]'s named companions. Author of the [[Gospel]] of [[Bible/Books/Luke|Luke]] and the book of [[Acts]], which together comprise almost a quarter of the [[New Testament]].
[[Bible/Characters/New Testament/Luke]] is mentioned by name in [[Colossians 4]]:14, [[Bible/Books/Philemon|Philemon]] 24, and [[2 Timothy 4]]:11. It is only in [[Colossians]] that we learn he was a doctor and a [[Gentile]]. Despite being mentioned only briefly in these passages, his presence alongside [[Paul]] demonstrates his consistent faithfulness as a co-worker in the gospel.
His significance extends far beyond these brief mentions. As the author of both the [[Gospel of Luke]] and [[Acts]], [[Bible/Characters/New Testament/Luke]] has provided the church with detailed accounts of [[Jesus]]' life and ministry, as well as the early church's growth and [[Paul]]'s missionary journeys. His unique perspective as a [[Gentile]] physician enriched his careful historical narratives, making him one of the most important contributors to the [[New Testament]].
