- Book: [[Exodus]]
- Previous chapter: [[Exodus 24]]
- Next chapter: [[Exodus 26]]
> [!summary] Summary
> - [[Yahweh]] instructs [[Moses]] to collect freewill offerings from [[Israel]] to build a sanctuary so God can dwell among them
> - Detailed specifications for the [[Ark of the Covenant]]: gold-covered wood box with golden mercy seat and two cherubim
> - Instructions for the table of bread of the Presence and the gold lampstand ([[Menorah]])
> [!info] Why is this here?
> - The entire second half of Exodus (chs. 25-40) answers the question posed at [[Massah]]: "Is the Lord among us or not?" — by constructing a permanent place for God to dwell
> - "Make a sanctuary for me and I will dwell among them" is the goal of the whole Exodus: not just freedom from slavery but a dwelling with God
> - The pattern shown on the mountain grounds the [[Tabernacle]] in heavenly reality — the earthly sanctuary is a copy of something in God's presence
# Overview

- "From everyone whose heart prompts them to give" — voluntary generosity

- Purpose: "Make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them"

## v. 10-22: The [[Ark of the Covenant]]

- The tablets of the covenant law placed inside
- "There, above the cover between the two cherubim, I will meet with you"
> [!note] The meeting place
> The mercy seat between the cherubim is where God promises to speak — the innermost place where heaven and earth meet. Everything else in the [[Tabernacle]] is oriented toward this point.

- Acacia wood overlaid with gold; gold molding and rim; four gold rings for poles
